RODA DE CHORO
A Roda de Choro is a vibrant and informal gathering of musicians, both professional and amateur, united by their passion for choro, Brazil’s first authentic urban musical genre, which emerged in the late 19th century. Rooted in a rich blend of African rhythms, European melodies, and Brazilian influences, choro is often referred to as the "father of samba" and a cornerstone of Brazilian music.
Typically held in a boteco (a traditional Brazilian bar) or other cozy venues, a roda de choro is an immersive musical experience where musicians play together for hours, showcasing the genre’s intricate melodies, improvisation, and rhythmic complexity. It’s not just a performance but a communal celebration of music, where players and listeners alike share in the joy of the moment.
Beyond the music, a roda de choro is a social event, fostering connections among friends, both old and new. It’s a space where the boundaries between performers and audience blur, creating an atmosphere of warmth, spontaneity, and cultural exchange. Whether you’re a seasoned choro enthusiast or a curious newcomer, a roda de choro offers a unique opportunity to experience the heart and soul of Brazilian musical tradition.
