RICARDO STEYER
SYDNEY BASED BRAZILIAN
GUITARIST & singer
Brazilian artist, 7-string guitarist & singer specialised in Choro, Samba & MPB (Música Popular Brasileira).
I was born in Porto Alegre and have been involved with music since very young age. At the beginning of my career, as a self-taught musician, I crossed the majority of musical genres and started playing music professionally in the early 2000’s in my home town, focusing on Rock and Pop-Rock repertoires.
Based in Sydney, Australia since 2012, my work shifted to developing and sharing the music from my country abroad, creating and joining Choro & Samba groups that range from trios to 9-piece funky ensembles performing in the most prestigious venues in the country.
More recently, I studied at the Brazilian School of Choro Raphael Rabello and have been exploring in depth the 7-string guitar with one of the greatest guitarists in this niche, Fernando César (Hamilton de Holanda’s brother), and this has been the main instrument in my music since 2015.
Below you’ll find some of my main projects.
RICARDO STEYER
CHORO ENSEMBLE
Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble is a dynamic group dedicated to the vibrant and intricate Choro music, from traditional to contemporary styles. Led by Ricardo Steyer, a renowned 7-string guitarist, the ensemble is a collaboration of some of Sydney’s finest and most experienced musicians, featuring instruments such as mandolin, flute, sax, clarinet and pandeiro. Together, they bring the rich heritage and lively spirit of this Brazilian genre to life.
The ensemble performs regularly at a variety of events, including private functions and corporate gatherings, offering a unique and engaging musical experience. They also host rodas de choro, the traditional jam-like gigs that celebrate the communal and improvisational nature of Choro music.
Throughout the year, Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble can be found performing at numerous events, sharing the beauty and history of Choro with audiences across Sydney.
Available for corporate and private events.
STEYER BROTHERs
Brazilian guitar
My brother and I have been playing music together for more than 20 years and our latest adventure is a journey to our roots: exploring the Brazilian Guitar repertoire and the works of Dilermando Reis, João Pernambuco, Turibio Santos, Baden Powell, Yamandu Costa, Toquinho, etc.
The Brazilian Guitar has a lot to offer and plays a pivotal role in the culture of our country, so for us it is a real pleasure to step into our homeland's musical heritage and share it across Australia.
Parallel to that we have also developed a classy Bossa Nova & Jazz standards repertoire that is a great addition to casual and formal gatherings.
Available for corporate & private events.
BELIZA
Beliza is a 9-piece Brazilian MPB & funky-rock-samba band, that has been doing a fantastic job at selling out tickets in venues like Camelot Lounge & Lazybones.
In a Beliza show you’ll see a lot of energy and a great opportunity to enjoy yourself to the fullest as it delivers the combination of an extremely experienced ensemble with a community-based crowd that always plays a big part in making the party happening.
This project has music from Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Djavan, Luiz Melodia, just to name a few, and I share the vocals with my brother, Roberto.
The group has been around for three years now and is versatile, also doing smaller gigs in trios to sextet formats, depending on the venue and occasion.
Available for corporate & private events.

MUSIC CLASSES
My purpose as music tutor is to explore the creativity within the student, to develop personal confidence and the set of skills necessary to master a musical instrument, and to engage the studies with excitement, fun and an achievement plan. Each student gets a tailored program based on their experience and goals, going through exercising, general understanding of theory & how to apply that into practice and development of repertoire.
If you would like to learn or develop your musical skills with an instrument, explore music theory, harmony, or even get started in your musical journey, please send a message in the Contact form below. All ages & levels are welcome.
